Introduction

Welcome to Humble Persistence!

This is my HONEST lifestyle blog, where I will share my Hot Mess Perspective on a variety of topics. I wanted a platform to talk freely about the things that matter most to me. I want to share my opinions, yes; however, I also want to share my experiences and ideas too! I’ll be sharing the truth about my DIY projects, recipes, pet care ideas, cleaning and organizing tips, the daily challenges of ADHD and our kids & SO MUCH MORE! I hope you’ll enjoy laughing along with me as I share all of what this chaotic life has to offer!

Gettin’ Crafty

I LOVE to DIY! From refurbishing furniture pieces to hand made gift giving, I will DIY my heart out! Maverick (my husband) and I both have an artistic background, so our home is essentially an art gallery of not only our pieces, but our kids’ art projects too! We are a creative family and we take great pride in our art work. Featured in the image below, you will see our gallery wall where we hang some of our favorite pieces. We also support our local artists in decorating our home! In fact, the white daisy’s featured in the same image located in the bottom left hand side and the top right hand side were painted by Tiffany Williams, a local artist and friend of mine. See all of her amazing art here! In addition to our gallery; I put my creative skills to use in other various forms of home improvement and decor. Furniture refurbishing, crafty ideas to fix broken things or repurpose them, and a plethora of other projects, just to name a few. I am so excited to share my many tips and tricks to making your next project a huge success!

Having a culinary background has afforded me the ability to break down traditional recipes and rebuild them to create new flavor combinations and/or completely new dishes altogether. I am inspired by the likes of Auguste Escoffier and Julia Child both! Their techniques, pairings and general approches are titillating! I endeavor to create new dishes that one could only dream would appeal to their nobility.

That being said, my kids couldn’t give a rat’s behind about Escoffier’s Chateubriand, Fillet Steak, or Tournedos. Oh, they love helping me make dinner; but they prefer their frozen chicken nuggets and boxed mac-n-cheese. And ya know what?! So do I, sometimes! Even though I worked in the bakery at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center where I was responsible for all of the desserts for parties of up to 600 people, I still took store bought cupcakes to school for my kids “summer birthday celebrations”. I know, I know… you shouldn’t feed your kids junk and all those over processed foods. I took a Nutrition and Wellness class, too. But, while my kids are kids, I’m gonna let them be kids. (More on that at another time) 😉

Pet Care Ideas

I have three wonderfully challenging fur babies too! Sam (short for Samwise Gamgee, LOTR) is my adorable 7+yr old Terrier-Mix, Xena (yes, Warrior Princess) is our 1yr old German Shepherd and Gooby is our rescued Guinea Pig. These three keep me on my toes and also inspire me to make life a little easier for them (and myself). I’ve got a few ideas to share with you on how to keep your pets happy, healthy and safe too!

Cleaning & Organizing Tips

My Organized & Labeled Kitchen Cabinet

To those that know me, know that I have been that Mom that gets more cleaning done in the 15 minutes before someone is due to arrive at my home than I do all week.. and I still am at times. All the same, when that happens now, it’s mostly just that “grazing cleaning”. Ya know, where you kinda just go from room to room picking up the stray dirty clothes to throw in the wash, gathering the last few dirty dishes to be put in the dishwasher, and a general “straightening up”. I have a few organizing tips that help me stay on top of the daily chores and a few tricks to getting the kids to help without even realizing that they are, in addition to a few cleaning secrets to get rid of stains and smells too! I mean let’s be real, I’ve got two dogs, a guinea pig, two kids and a husband that challenges me from time to time too. Stains and ESPECIALLY smells are inevitable in this line of work. How you get rid of them is the real challenge!

ADHD & Our Kids

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can be difficult to understand from an outsiders perpective; however, I assure you, the parent struggling to gather their groceries while keeping calm with two children both diagnosed with ADHD feeding off of each other’s symptoms, knows. They know their kids are being loud. They know their kids are disrupting you from picking out just the right melon. They know that they’ve expressed the need for them(their children) to calm down multiple times by now. They know that the diagnosis doesn’t negate the misbehavior all of the time. They don’t need or want your glaring disapproval of their child/children. As I’m sure you can tell, this topic hits a bit of a nerve for me. I look forward to sharing more about our daily struggles and how we try to handle the events that come up along the way. And if I can help make some sense of it all to other parents or even the on-lookers in the store, well, then I’ve accomplished what I set out to do.

To Sum It All Up

I’m a Hot Mess Mom and I want to share this messy world of mine with you. If it can benefit just one person per post, then it will have been worth it for me. If it can help me be a better, more patient Mom, then that would be pretty great too! I’m not perfect and you will never see me claim to be. I want to give you a truly honest perspective of this crazy thing we call life. I want my kids to know that there’s no such thing as a perfect parent. I want them to know that where I am “Mom”, I am also HUMAN and I make mistakes. This blog is about reaching out to the rest of the Hot Mess Mommas (and Daddies) and letting them know that they’re human too!
