Creme Brulee
Easy, inexpensive, elegant, and Oh So Sweet!
Creme brulee seems to be synonymous with an expensive date night dessert. The rich velvety texture of the creme and the crispy crunch of the caramelized sugar send your taste buds on a wave of smooth sailing. With just a few simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen, you too can enjoy this decadent treat with your loved ones.
Today, the girls and I decided we wanted to make a special dessert for our fellas. My Dad’s favorite dessert is creme brulee so he was very excited when we mentioned it! It’s also a favorite of my husband’s too! I’m telling you, this dessert is so simple! Check it out!
Ingredients
- 3 cups of heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (and more to top it later)
- 8 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: Add heavy cream and vanilla to medium saucepan and simmer on low-medium heat. Careful not to boil.
Step 2: Whisk together egg yolks and sugar; whip vigorously until mixture turns a pale yellow color and you can create a figure 8 on the surface.
Step 3: While continuing to whisk the egg and sugar mixture, slowly drizzle in the hot cream mixture. **CAREFUL NOT TO ADD TOO MUCH TOO FAST** This could cause the egg yolks to curdle, essentially cooking the egg yolks.
Step 4: Once all of the cream mixture has been incorporated, place ramekins in a deeper pan and fill the bottom of the pan with hot water.
Step 5: Carefully place pan(s) in the oven and bake at 320F for 28-30 minutes. I accidentally left the convection setting on on my oven. This caused mine to brown on top due to the steady circulation of air. Yours should be more yellow/pale yellow in color.
Pictured below, you’ll see examples of the color you’re looking for.
Step 6: Once done baking, remove from the oven and water bath, allow to cool at room temperature for roughly 30 minutes.
Step 7: Wrap individually in plastic wrap and set in refrigerator to cool for 4-5 hours and upto overnight.
Step 8: Remove plastic wrap and sprinkle with 1/2 – 1 tsp of granulated sugar and shake/turn to fully coat the surface evenly.
Step 9: Torch it! Heat the sugar with a torch until sugar carmelizes.
Step 10: *optional* Top with whipped cream and fresh berries!
Step 11: Crack the top with a spoon and enjoy!
I am not ashamed to say that I may have over indulged a bit too much on this one… I mean… they were just too irresistible!! You’ll see… when you make these, you’ll have a hard time putting down the spoon too.
